Resilient Communities
We are currently in Phase 1 of our operations: planning, preparing and fundraising for Phase 2 – the construction of the Seres Centre which is scheduled for kickoff in January 2011.
As part of Phase 1, we have spent over 18 months on the ground in Guatemala and El Salvador, taking our classrooms directly into the community and running tests and trials for the Resilient Communities Programs that we will run in the Seres Centre. Our initial two projects were highly successful and well received by the community, and through these positive relationships we have expanded our work to now run 5 separate projects.
We are using this time as our learning experience: refining our methods and strategy of working with the community and developing programs that provide the most effective and appropriate methods for climate change adaptation. To read more about these projects, click on the links below:
Resilient Communities Programs
- Permaculture and Sustainable Living at the Dorothy Byrne Casa Del Nino, Guatemala
- Capacity building and community education with the Papaturro Youth Environment Group, El Salvador
- “Recycled Recreation” playground, and celebration of International Year of Biodiversity at the Dorothy Byrne Casa Del Nino, Guatemala
- “Building With Basura” (trash) to demonstrate the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle with the community at San Pedro, Guatemala
- Resilient Futures, Now! – developing fun, mobile educational workshops and materials for youth and children from 5 to 25 to take to Guatemala schools
