Volunteering
Volunteering is a rewarding and often life changing experience. It offers opportunities for learning, self discovery and personal growth, as well as excellent experience on your work and education resume. Volunteering does not just mean having to be on-the-ground in Guatemala. Some of our most valuable volunteers contribute to Seres through Virtual Volunteering, helping with research, grant writing, translating and other important work from anywhere in the world. If you are interested in volunteering with Seres, please see below for more information on what we have available. And, if you don’t see something that you like but have a great idea for ways in which you can help out, please feel free to drop us a line and let us know (info@projectseres.org)
VIRTUAL VOLUNTEERING POSITIONS
- We are currently looking for experienced Grant Writers and Fundraisers that can offer a minimum of 2 hours/week to assist us in grant applications and fundraising for our Capital Campaign, which will be launched in June this year
- Do you like Event Planning? Would you like to organize a concert or arrange a silent auction? Or do you have another idea? Around the world, people are helping us raise money to build the Seres Centre by organizing a fundraising event in honor of Seres. If this sounds like your thing, please drop us a line and let us know what you would like to do.
VOLUNTEERING IN GUATEMALA
Volunteering on-the-ground with the project is a unique experience, and one in which you are guaranteed to get more out of then you put in! Our volunteer programs are structured to ensure that you get the most out of your contribution, and that our volunteer programs have the maximum benefit to the project and community. Below is a short overview of the volunteer opportunities and programs that we offer.
Short-term Volunteering (0-3 months)
Short-term volunteering positions are managed by our partner El Camino Voluntours , who focus on offering true cultural exchanges and meaningful volunteer experiences. El Camino Voluntours help us by looking after all the logistics of catering for volunteers, and providing you with meals, accommodation, transport, tools and any background information that you will need to have a productive and rewarding volunteer experience. For more information, visit the El Camino Voluntours webpage or email info@projectseres.org
Mid-Term Volunteering (3-6 months)
From time-to-time, specific volunteer positions become available which require a minimum time commitment and specific skills. In exchange for this, we offer a reduced rate on lodging (food and accommodation) at our headquarters in Tecpan or on the project site (rate to be discussed based on time commitment and position requirements).
- Permaculture Site Manager. Minimum 3 months commitment. Discounted living rates for longer-term commitment – email for more information.
- Executive Assistant to the executive director. Minimum 3 months. Email for more information.
Long-Term Internships (6-12 months)
Our “Internship” positions are ‘age-independent’ positions targeted towards professionals/skilled people who are committed to a long term stay with the project. In exchange to a working commitment, we offer food and accommodation and local transport expenses. As these positions will most often involve mentoring one of our local employers and interacting with both students and the local community, a minimum level of Intermediate spoken Spanish is essential.
These positions will be advertised here and through our Facebook page as they become available, so remember to keep checking in regularly to see what comes up.
