From the Founder
Dear Friend,
My name is Corrina Grace, and I am the founder of Project Seres – a project fighting against the injustices of climate change and working to create social and ecological equality and a world where we can live in harmony with each other and with our environment.
The concept behind Project Seres was first conceived in 2008 upon my return to Australia after 10 months volunteering in Guatemala. I had been working with a group called the Appropriate Infrastructure Development Group (www.aidg.org), whose mission is to bring affordable and environmentally sound infrastructure to poor rural communities, and I was struck by how such low-cost and simple ideas can bring such enormous benefits to communities in need.

When I returned home, I started working in the field of sustainability and climate change – assisting businesses with the transition to a low-carbon economy. However the more I became involved in this work and the greater exposure I had to the ongoing political, scientific and economic debates about which steps should be taken and by whom, the more I was struck by the bitter irony of it all – an irony that we are now all too familiar with – not only will the world’s most vulnerable citizens be the first and hardest hit by climate change (individuals that are least responsible for the current situation) but the majority of these individuals are not even aware that “climate change” exists, and that their future was (and still is) being hotly debated.
As I dwelt more and more on these issues, searching for real, tangible solutions, my initial ideas for Project Seres began to grow.
In January 2009, I made the decision to move back to Central America to begin researching in earnest for this project. I have spent time both getting Project Seres started, and traveling to various countries within the region, speaking with locals and developing an understanding of the impacts that climate change is having on the welfare and livelihoods of the people living here. As my knowledge and understanding grows, so too does my conviction that Project Seres can and will have a significant and positive impact on improving the lives of these people.
This blog represents both my personal journey, and the development of the project as it grows from seed of an idea that it was late in 2008 to the dynamic, vibrant centre of collaboration, knowledge sharing, education and empowerment around climate change and sustainable development that I know it will become. I cannot even begin to imagine all the different paths and opportunities that will branch off from this, but I look forward to discovering them as we work towards finding ways in which all people can enjoy the social and ecological equality that I believe every living thing is entitled to.
