What We Do

LENGUA-LANGUAGE: Spanish

The word Seres can be defined as: “an intermediate step in a biological community that is progressing towards a steady state of equilibrium and harmony.” Very simply, this is what we are trying to do.

We don’t limit ourselves to specific solutions. We select and share solutions that are economically, culturally, and environmentally sustainable, to maintain the biodiversity and cultural diversity of the communities we support. Broadly defined, we work in three main areas: alternative agriculture, renewable energy systems and appropriate technology, which includes such things as:

- Permaculture and organic agriculture
- Aquaponics
- Agro-forestry
- Composting toilets
- Water capture and storage, black and grey water treatment and
- Recycling
- Water filters
- Alternative building methods (super-adobe, bamboo, straw-bale, recycled materials)
- Solar energy and solar hot water
- Micro-hydro and micro-wind systems
- Biodigestors

Community meetings

Each community has a unique set of circumstances, challenges and needs – which means that for each community, the answers are different and will often involve a combination of the ideas above.
Most importantly, these answers are driven by the community members themselves. We believe the community members are the ones best placed to understand what will work best for them. Our role is to share the information about what options are available, provide education to understand the technology, and the support and partnership to help them develop and implement it. Our goal in doing this is to both empower the community – allowing them to see the change that they are responsible for creating, and to encourage ownership of the projects – creating more sustainable, longer-lasting impacts.
